Givenchy have been spotted at their flagship store in the city of New York in the past few days, sporting new Smiths glasses for the holidays.
The sunglasses have been on sale for just under a week, but given the brand’s penchant for keeping things close to its chest, it’s hard to see why it hasn’t been out of stock for long.
We can’t confirm this because the company is no longer in business, but it would be a surprise if the new Smithson sunglasses weren’t already available for sale.
The brand’s latest pair are due out in May.
A Smiths spokesperson told us that the brand had been “a long time in the making” and that it had been the subject of a “significant” review by its director of consumer affairs.
“We have been a long time-in-the-making, and have been making this change in a strategic manner to ensure the best possible customer experience,” they added.
“As a result, we are able to share with our partners the results of our review of the glasses, and provide a more accurate snapshot of the products available to our customers.”
The brand’s first pair of Smiths-branded sunglasses arrived in November last year, and were a big hit for the brand.
The company’s head of communications, David Deen, was quoted in The New York Times as saying that Smiths “is in a period of great change and we wanted to reflect that with the Smiths brand, which we have always valued and loved”.
The new glasses will be available at stores across the US from May, and the brand has promised that the new glasses won’t just be the first in a new range.
“They are a very important part of our business strategy,” said Deen.
“We have done this before and they will continue to do so, but the product itself will be a new part of that strategy.”
